Your stock HPOP might be able to keep up - some folks get lucky, some don't. However, as you probably already know, anything larger than stock that is not a hybrid will have higher oil pressure requirements. I think you have a better chance of avoiding emissions problems with smaller injectors, like Stage I or II. That's hearsay I never tried smaller nozzles first-hand. Smaller nozzles are supposed to atomize better and perhaps smoke less. I've read a few forum posts that suggest the larger nozzles, although better for ultimate fuel delivery and possibly lower oil pressure requirements, are a contributing factor in the amount of smoke produced. For what it's worth, mine smoked like a banshee and would not pass emissions. I believe these injectors have fairly large nozzles. Specifically, Bean's stage III injectors. I ran single shot hybrid injectors in mine. I think I got mine from ITP Diesel, if they're still in business. It's also fairly cheap and should give you a good spot for a fuel pressure gauge, which will come in handy. Pretty easy upgrade and yea, the consensus is that the regulated return system will extend the life of any injectors. I did the regulated return system before swapping my injectors. Are you running a boost fooler? At 23psi it will begin to defuel and a throw a codeįWIW, I hit 95% duty cycle on the IPR when hauling my 5th wheel at times, and don't get a CEL. I believe that to be injector related and not HPOP related. if i run in my "#4 Race" tune uphill the IPR hits 65% and it throw a CEL and code. honestly that's what make me consider the new injectors. I monitor HPOP and IPR with the juice so i'll just have to see what it does. So it sounds like 160/30 is a generally accepted good idea. she'll chirp tires in 2nd and 3rd :) I'll have to get some trac bars somedays, i hate to think what my pinion angle looks like doing that. i feel very confident in the setup, and its a blast to drive. I'm glad to have a ZF6 with the Southbend Clutch. Makes me feel the $300 tunes from Swamps might be a good deal. Yeah that kind of gets me on the tunes as well, I looked into the DP Tuner and others, and when you start adding it all up i began to feel a bit of sticker shock. I'm inclined to think something like below would be a good option as i can get the custom tuning from swamps as well, but please, i'm very interested in some feedback and discussion! I'd guess that a 30% nozzle would be a good idea. I'd really rather not have to upgrade the fuel system or the HPOP, or if do i'd like to make it something that i can do one at a time and not have to throw down all at once. I am only just beginning to learn about injector stuff, the other forums aren't all that useful. (as a side note, i REALLY like it as a monitor, data logger and code reader) I use a juice as a tuner and monitor right now (also gauges), obviously I couldn't use this as a tuner anymore, but would retain it as a monitor. its also our family road trip machine so it typically goes on a 2k+ road trip once a year and we'll go visit Bandimere a couple times a year to race the highway patrol. i might tow a larger gooseneck once or twice a year typically as a favor to friends or family, or might load the bed down with dirt, rocks or wood. but we do like to haul butt in the mountains and drive it pretty hard. So, we don't do a lot of heavy hauling, mostly light to moderate bed loading, or towing a fairly light jeep. when we are not doing that stuff, we are towing the jeep to go wheeling or using it for some miscellaneous task. mostly its used as our weekend toy machine, during the summer it hauls mountain bikes to winter park, during the winter it hauls ski's, when we arn't going skiing or biking, we are going rock climbing or mountaineering. its my daily driver, but my office is at home so i drive a lot less than others, less than 10,000 miles a year. Its worth asking here as i think ya'll likely better understand how we use our trucks in the front range. Performance wise I think its pretty well maxed out without some more fuel, and with about 260K miles on the (i think) original injectors I have to be realistic about the lifespan. Its time for me to start thinking about a fuel injector upgrade.
